1a) What are the persona's feelings described in the first three stanzas of this poem? Explain how the poet described these feelings through the use of alliteration, metaphor and pun.
Pun:
• “quarry of knowledge” : The evidence shows that even though the teacher has a vast amount of knowledge. The teacher is also the predator as he prey on the students for their work.
• “I am sick” : The evidence is that the poet is tires of marking the untidy work of his students as it was too messy.
• “kindle my will to a flame” The evidence shows that the poet motivation was easily destroyed or ‘burnt’.
Metaphor
• “My pack of unruly hounds.” : This is a metaphor as the writer associate the students as a pack of dogs as they are very noisy and restless, and also making a lot of noise.
• “ insults of blotted pages” : The metaphor is to show how untidy the work of the student is, thus, is an insult to the paper.
• “fuels of life” : This metaphor suggests that the persona has very little energy left and is very tired of disciplining his student. He is getting frustrated.
Alliteration
• “apart.……..start”: The alliteration shows that the persona is very vexed and these two words capture the attention of the readers to point out his feelings.
• “Of…..Of…..Of…..”: This alliteration evidently describes that the persona is very furious and this sounds very forceful which tells the readers that the persona is having a hard time teaching.
• “ Soul…….toll”: This is another form of alliteration which emphasizes that the persona is very angry.
1b) How is the tone of anger in this poem illustrated?
Diction
• “leash”
• “hounds”
• “brunt”
• “scrawl”
• The poet uses diction in “leash” to show that he is trying to pull the students back to the classroom like an owner pulling his dog on a leash which shows that the persona is enraged. “Hounds” is another evidence of dictation to suggests that the students were like dogs, very restless and repulsive. The evidence “brunt” shows that the persona is not able to withstand the pressure from work as it is too hard for the teacher to handle as the students are too restless. “Scrawl” shows that the students handwriting was terrible and he could not take it anymore.

Summary: Scientists have found traces of a key building block of biology in dust snatched from the tail of a comet. Scientists at Goddard Space Flight Centre in Greenbelt, Maryland, have uncovered glycine, the simplest amino acid and a vital compound necessary for life, in a sample from the comet Wild 2, named for astronomer Paul Wild. The sample was captured by National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Stardust spacecraft. They spent two years to verify the results. From this, we can know that comets could have delivered amino acids to the early Earth, contributing to the ingredients that life originated from. They deployed a tennis racket-shaped collector packed with a substance called aerogel, which harvested comet particles. Professor Don Brownlee, a University of Washington astronomer who served as chief scientist on the Stardust mission, said the result is exciting because it represents a second, very large source of life-giving material. He estimated that there are as many as a trillion comets in and around the solar system, many of them located in the chilly Kuiper Belt beyond Pluto, or in the Oort Cloud even farther out.Prof Brownlee pointed out that many of the 30,000 or so meteorites found on Earth bear traces of organic compounds, and there is also evidence that they were once warm and wet, all necessary conditions for life. Article 1 - My Favourite Food
My favourite food is Fried Hokkien Mee ( Fried Prawn Noodles).
I first tried it when I was about seven to eight years old when my parents brought me to a hawker centre for lunch. It was like love in first bite and I was addicted to it. The aroma was simply mouth-watering, making my saliva to drop. The noodle had a pleasant savoury taste and has a hint of smokiness which makes the taste unique and special. The noodle was smooth and the texture was just nice. Even though it has very little ingredient, which usually consist of prawns, sotong (squid), fishcakes and most definitely eggs(and sometimes even got belly pork). The noodle and the gravy could make anyone satisfy as there will be thick gravy that clings to the strands so that every mouthful is a good balance of gravy and noodles. Don't forget the chill sauce as it will not be complete without it as the chilli will give you a tinged of spiciness. By the way, you also must not forget to add the lime, as it will give the noodle a bit more taste and a hint of sourness, causing the noodle to have a variety of flavours.

My Favourite Poet
Shel Silverstien.
My favourite poet is Shel Silverstein. He wrote many poem for children and he was perhaps the most widely popular children's book author of the twentieth century. Critic Megan Rosenfeld has aptly dubbed him the “poet laureate of kids.” Some of his works have been longtime bestsellers, translated into numerous languages, and internationally celebrated. Silverstein's verse and illustrations in his books for children are celebrated for their whimsical sense of humor, satire, and absurdity. Although sometimes he was compared to Dr. Seuss, Silverstein's poetry for children has a more rebellious edge, often promoting iconoclasm and anti-establishment antics, and frequently ridiculing the rules of conduct put forth by adults. Nonetheless, Silverstein's message to children often has strong moral implications. This is the part where I find him intriguing.
Other Silverstein poems for children express more sincere sentiments, as well as strong moral messages, though usually couched in silly terms.
For example, The Giving Tree, is a story of self-sacrifice and selfless devotion that has been interpreted as a Christian parable. Most of Silverstein's stories and poems for children eschew the preachiness and didactic moralizing that often characterizes children's books. Silverstein is also known for his adult humor, such as his many cartoons published in Playboy magazine.

Commentators also note that the appeal of Silverstein's verse for children is partly due to his simple, regular rhyming schemes. Silverstein's verse has been praised for its speech-like qualities, lending itself to oral recitation and musical accompaniment. These qualities render Silverstein's poetry accessible and easy-to-read for children. Poem Review
A Dream Within A Dream by Edgar Allan Poe
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow--
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.
I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand--
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep--while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?

This phrase is a hyperbole as the poet describe the sand as the poet exaggerate by saying how it crept in 'my' fingers and also the 'I' weep.
Also: "O God! can I not graspThem with a tighter clasp?O God! can I not saveOne from the pitiless wave?"
The peot is stressing ont the point by repeating 'O God!' This is to catch the reader attention and also exaggerate on the point.
For metaphor: "Grains of the golden sand, Of a surf-tormented shore."
There are many types of metaphor and this is an implied or unstated metaphor.As aAn implied or unstated metaphor is a metaphor not explicitly stated or obvious that compares two things by using adjectives that commonly describe one thing, but are used to describe another comparing the two, thus the poet want to let the reader to understand better by comparing 2 things.

I like this poem because the poet uses many figurative languages like hyperbole, metaphors and so on.The poet describe very well and it with alot of feeling and emotion as the poet inject his own feeling and emotion into the poem. He also tries to elaborated and stress on the things that he want to exaggerate, thsu trying to capture the reader attention to comprehen the point to understand the peom better and can also understand what is the poet trying to telll them.

As Miss Narwin was boarding the flight to Florida, she suddenly remebered the great times teaching students. She changed her mind and decided not to go to Florida. She decided to join another school to start afresh in a new environment. She made up her mind to join Washington Academy. She joined around the same time with Philip Malloy. Ladies and gentlemen,thank you for coming to here my speech today. Today, I am here to give a short speech about rehiring of older workers. Very few companies decided to hire old people to work like me. Most of the companies think that older people is very old and is useless.I am here to encourage companies to employ more older workers. Have you ever why old and retired people wants to work? Either their childrens does not give them any money or they have no more savings or they are very poor. We could stay at home relax or go for holiday and do not need to bother to find any work. If you ever encounter this in the future, won't u be miserable like us too? I hope you will spare a for us old people and give us for a better future for us.
